Hello,
One of my favorite places to visit, especially in the summer, is the library. I love to look and see what new books they have gotten since the last time I have been there. I usually pick out two books to take home and read. I like that I can take the books home without having to pay for them as long as I take them back in three weeks. Another thing that I like about the library is that they have other things besides books that I can borrow such as music and movies.
I am wondering if you have ever visited the library. If you have, what do you like about the library? If you haven't ever been to the library, maybe you could ask your parents to take you sometime. I know you probably have books at home and perhaps visit the book store to get new ones.
I am also wondering what books you like to read. Some of my favorite children's books are The Big Wide Mouthed Frog, Corduroy, Splat the Cat, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Make Way for Ducklings, of course. When I see you next, perhaps you could tell me the name of your favorite books. We will read lots of books at preschool and have books for you to look at and listen to in our new Media Center.
Take time to read a few good books over the summer. Enjoy this wonderful weather that we are having. I will be seeing you soon!

Family Picture
Hello!
Last week I told you a little about my family and a lot about my ducks. Well, today I will give you a little bit more information about my husband and children.
My husband is a carpenter. He builds and fixes houses. He built the house that we live.
My son, Rayce, lives and works in Waterloo, Iowa. When he was 4 years old, he loved to play with toy tractors and construction equipment. Now that he is older, he works for a company that rents and sells big construction equipment. So even as a grown up, he occasionally gets to play with equipment like bulldozers and excavators.
My daughter, Renee, lives in Clinton, Iowa, where she goes to college at Ashford University. She is going to college to become a high school math teacher. In the summer and on weekends, she works for Hawkeye Motorworks in Davenport.
This weekend will be my husband's birthday, so both Rayce and Renee are coming home for a party.

A Little Bit About My Family
Hello!
One thing that I like about being a teacher is that I get to meet lots of children and their parents. I will enjoy getting to know you and your family soon. Right now, I would like to share some information about my family with you so that you will get to know me.
In my family, I have my husband, Mr. Christiansen, a son, Rayce who is 25, and a daughter, Renee who is 21. I will share more information about them soon, but today I want to tell you about my pets. We have pet ducks at my house. We started out with two ducks and now have nine. Our ducks are a Mallard/Rouen mix. They are fun to take care of and watch. They like to be near me, but do not like to be touched. If you look at the photo below, you will see that they will come close to me, but only if they think I have a meal worm treat in my hand. They love to play in the water, so they coming running when they see me getting the hose out to water the flowers, just like children! We have a duck house for them to sleep in at night. That keeps them safe from other critters that wander at night.
I am wondering if you have any pets. If so, I hope that you will tell me about them. If you don't have a pet, that's okay! When my children were little, we didn't have pets either. They take a lot of time and attention. Perhaps you could tell me what kind of pet you would like to have when you get older. Maybe you have a stuffed animal that is very special to you. I would like to hear about that, too.
Have a wonderful week!

A Hot July Day!
It feels like summer today. Hot and steamy! I hope that you had a nice Independence Day. My family enjoyed a parade, a campfire, and fireworks.
Today, when I arrived at the preschool, I noticed something walking in the parking lot. I quickly grabbed my camera and took a picture of it. Take a look.

It is a ground hog. Now I am wondering "Where does it live? Is it a boy or a girl? What does it find to eat around the preschool yard? Does it hibernate in the winter? Does he have a friend or does he live by himself?"
At preschool, we explore many things. We ask questions and then search for the answers. Sometimes we have to make guesses and do experiments.
It's like solving a mystery. I hope that you like to do that, too.
Keep cool this week!

Hello!
Hello Everyone!
I am at the preschool today because I was told that I would be receiving a box from the UPS truck. During the past month, we have been receiving a lot of new toys and equipment for the preschool. So far, we have gotten a new kitchen set (sink, stove, refrigerator, dish cupboard, washing machine and ironing board) a writing and drawing table, a shelving unit for our media center, and new blocks for the block area. Today's shipment was an easel for our art center. This easel will allow four children to paint at the same time. It has room for all kinds of paper and painting items. I've included a picture below of me putting it together. I can't wait for you to come to school to see and play with all of our new things.
I've been busy at home this summer as well. Last week, I picked strawberries and cherries. The strawberries were easy, but the cherries had to be pitted which means I had to remove the pit, which is the seed, out of each one. It took me a while and my hands were stained red when I was done, but I love cherry pie so it was worth it.
I am wondering what you have been doing over the summer. I'm guessing that some children have been swimming, playing ball, or perhaps going on a vacation. I bet some have been riding tricycles, bicycles or scooters. Independance Day is coming up on Thursday. Are you planning to watch fireworks? My family and I usually go to a parade in DeWitt, which is my hometown, and then watch fireworks at night.
I guess I'd better get back to unpacking boxes!
Have a wonderful and safe week!
