A new author

Group Meeting:  I have added a few things to our learning centers this week and wanted to take a few minutes to go over them with the children.  In our media center, I have made separate book bins for Mo Willems books and the author/illustrator for this week, Eric Carle.  The preschool has purchased a computer to read books to the children.  The books titles are from the Creative Curriculum so most of them are books we have already read such as Three Billy Goats Gruff, Henny Penny, etc.  The children are learning how to select a book, turn the pages, and cue the sound.   We have also added pet care items to the Housekeeping Area.

Story:  Our author this week is Eric Carle.  I read The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Many of the children were familiar with this story.  It starts with a tiny Caterpillar hatching from an egg.  The Caterpillar finds many things to eat to help it grow.  Finally, the Caterpillar spins a cocoon and hatches into a beautiful butterfly.

We did not have a small group activity today as I was helping the children learn to work the computer program for books.

Large Group:  Eric Carle has created a book called From Head to Toe.  In this book, animals are named along with something that the animal can do.  The children are supposed to copy it.  For example,  a donkey can kick up it's legs, can you do it?  We worked through the book kicking, stretching, flapping, stamping, etc.

Snacks:  The morning class had Rice Krispie Treats and juice brought by Carter.  The afternoon class had chicken strips and milk brought by Robert.  Thank you!

We are up to 270 books for our ice cream party.  Keep reading!
